Hey all, just something thats been on my mind lately so thought I'd do a quick post about it really. So lately i've been hit on a sick run where basically nothing is going my way on the felt, which sort of sucks and is a huge blow to your mind frame especially when your just not used to it for example just coming off a hot run or something like that.
I know this is something that has been talked about before by lots of other people but when your in the middle of a downturn you can always forget the simple truth of poker and thats Long Term v Short term, as players we shouldn't be thinking results orientated no matter how hard this is, it's detrimental to our game if we are thinking this way at the felt. I know this first hand as of late because even though i've read this before I found myself thinking argh i've played like 300 mtts since november and I haven't won any of them yet on PokerStars. I found this quite frustrating as on PKR I have won more mtts ect but also on stars i've one quite a few 180 man sngs. So I don't know maybe this is just the balance I have got to accept because the fields are bigger so variance is going to be a bit harsher I just need to play more games to counteract this variable.
To be honest now that I am back to thinking like this things feel better when I'm at the felt, I'm no longer thinking about my results just playing each hand the best that I can and for any one reading this I hope this helps bring you to this place as-well. I actually only thought about it after talking a friend(Hunteryv) about my results of late ect and then I was watching on youtube the Tom Dwan's million dollar challenge and in an interview he talked about it and actually the accumulation of people talking about it helped me get back to this place.
I've got a couple of questions for anyone reading this so feel free to post your answer in the comments box below.
1) What do you guys do to get in the right state of mind before you get at the felt? ( Do you believe healthy body = healthy mind for example)
2) What music do you guys listen to when your playing? I think I've got quite a weird mix when I'm playing lately its been Evanesence's new self titled albumn, Jessie J and then some random musical thrown in the mix with a bit of Linkin park too.
3) What has happened to Tom Dwan, is it just me or has he dropped off the face of the earth. Really interesting player would like to see more of him in media to be honest. You guys know anything about what he been doing?
Anyway Hope you enjoy the read and look forward to your answers,
Peace

The here and now
So this gonna be the post about where I'm at now! Pretty much what I've been doing since November and why I've not really been around on PKR as-well.
In November I decided to continue searching for ways to improve my game and did some searches for poker communities ect I came across the obvious Two Plus Two, joined here but then also found a website called PocketFives which i'd never heard of until this point. I signed up turned out to be a really good site, I made a post in the community section introducing myself and explained my situation and that I'm trying to improve my game and gave them a list of things I'd read and brief history so they had an idea of where I am at and best way to move forward. A couple of guys replied basically the consensus was coaching is the best way forward for me and I sort of agreed and thought yea that sounds good. I contacted a couple of people and ended up speaking to one of the coaches there who looked through a Hand history for me and said what he thought.
After a few chats with him he showed me a website that was for staking(PartTimePoker) and this is ideal for me because basically I'm a bum student with not much money to myself. So I signed up to this site and looked for a staking deal. What I found here was much more than I expected. I found a deal that was aimed at long time investment and the people running the backing would also coach me.
So essentially, here is my deal. They will stake me at this point to play in the $2.50 180 man sngs on PokerStars and give me instructions on how to play optimally. Then when I get to grasps with their strategy they would move me up in levels and start putting me in MTTs as-well as the possibility of live stake in the future. My cut is 35/65 and the game sets were of 600 per set then divide up profits after and no makeup. So this has been a pretty sweet deal that I am still in now except for I am now playing $5.50/$1rebuy mtts along with the $2.50 180 man sngs.
My game has definitely improved since joining this stable another beneficial part of this was that there are others being staked and coached so we talk about it all the time ect and can improve in group talks.
Rest of the year and Aims
So this is what I'm hoping to do with the rest of my year. Got a PKR meet up in June in Southend always good being my home town :), Then in july I'm possibly going on holiday and if not a holiday then I'll probably hold out for an august leeds meet. In september will see how funds are because there are a few side events at EPT london that i'd like to take part in.
From may 11th- September 22nd i think is my summer holiday this time is going to be fully concentrated on poker, mainly in my stake and will probably put a few hundred on PKR to play too as I could always use some profit that is 100% mine to keep me going during summer.
Long term, as mentioned I'm a student at university and after my current course finishes in a years time then I'm going to most likely to a PGCE at a more local to home university and then teach. But I've already come to a deal with my parents where I can spend a year living at home to try to do poker professionally for a year and see how I go. This will be two or three years down the line I am hoping by this time to be playing in the higher stakes already and hopefully I should be a much better player by then.
Hope you all enjoy the read

What I've done
Hey everyone so to kick start this blog I thought I'd just give you my poker history and then later in the week shall tell you where I'm at right now and my aims :)
The Start
So i guess this is pretty typical really, I started playing poker when I was 17 on PKR, starting off in play money. I took to this game pretty quickly and figured out a few of the basics I'd already played a few home games with the family again for play money. So after practicing for a while I won my first play money tournament and then I decided to deposit at 18 and play on PKR For real money.
My game back then was mostly SNGS and occasionally MTTS, I did ok to begin with but as you would expect I had no idea of bankroll management or most strategy. I looked around on forums for advice on my game and how I can improve it I immediately found helpful members of the PKR community such as Destacker always willing to help and point me in the right direction.
So after reading a few strategy articles and playing a bit more I made a few final tables and then finally my first win on the 29th July 2010 I binked the $400 gtd which in todays terms is pretty much the low roller mtt. This was a pretty good win because it gave a boost in confidence and also was just after my birthday always good times :). For the rest of that year I just had some sporadic cashes and not any more real improvement.
2011
This year was a pretty good year as a whole, I'll only take you up as far as like November though as the rest is sort of connected to where I'm at right now!
So this year started off pretty standard again sporadic cashes best being a cash in the sunday open and a FT on the low roller again. Early on this year I started to take things seriously again and ended up reading a plethora of books about 10 different poker books in the end all of which helped my game hugely. But the most important move during that education period was when I joined Poker VT this really helped my game a lot I really recommend this site!
So that was about in may time and then soon after I got my biggest win to date! on the 5th of june when I won the Main event.
I couldn't believe it when I won this MTT I was so happy I literally coulnd't sleep for hours after and as it was like 5 am when we finished I was very tierd! After this happened my confidence had boomed and a few results followed

Heartbreak Poker
Hey everyone, I've decided to actually do a blog inspired by the recent increase in blogs and ForFoxSake's blog.So I guess I should start out with some kind of introduction as to who I am and what this blog is going to be .
My name is Jamie,21 years old. Currently go to university studying Drama and performance currently in my 2nd year before which I did a two year musical theatre course, so I guess I'm not the typical poker player that you hear of. I am totally looking forward to a summer of playing poker though, us lazy students get from early may - late september off mbn!!
For this blog I'm going to discuss my poker journey so far and where I'm intending to be to start things off and then will just see where I take it from there I guess !
Just to give you some background info on me in the poker world, I've been playing poker now for about 4 years now and played for the majority of it on the site PKR but am now also playing quite a bit on Pokerstars.
My screen names for these sites are
PKR: hbk2006
Pokerstars: hbk20066
so feel free to say hi if you see me at the tables ect ect.
Anyway I will hopefully get my first post about poker up soon in the next couple of days. Hope you guys follow and enjoy it :)
